We ask you for as little information as possible. We do not want any more information than will allow you to use the site.
Information We Ask For
Your email address: We ask you for your email address to give us a way to communicate with you if you need to retrieve your account. That is it. There is nothing else we need it for and we will never reveal it to anyone except as required by law.
Virtualpetsworld does not provide any personally identifying information, regardless of its source, to any third party for any purpose whatsoever.
Your age: We ask you how old you are to comply with a law called the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998. This law makes the sign-up process different for children under 13 years of age. One thing that is different is that it does not let us retain in our files an email address of a child under 13 without parental or guardian consent. Because we retain all email addresses to retrieve accounts, we currently do not allow children under 13 to sign up on our site. We ask that a parent sign up instead with the parent's email address. This may change in the future if the law changes, or if we decide to stop retaining email addresses. We will obtain consent from a parent or guardian if we ever decide to collect any information from children under 13.

Your Gender: During sign-up, we ask if you are male or female. The only thing we use this for is to change the text of things you see on the web site. For example, decriptions of items might include "him" or "her". No one else will see it.
Information We Do not Ask For
We do not ask for anything else. If you ever receive an email that looks like it is from us asking for your name, address, phone number, or any personal information, please report it to us immediately. And needless to say, never reveal anything personal about yourself in the chat room on the site. Do not use your real name or give out your email, phone number, address or any other identifying information. It is generally not wise to do this on the internet.How Your Information is Stored
